At first glance, this may seem unusual. However, our Sciener smart digital lock is designed to function without relying on the internet, making the locking and unlocking process both simple and highly reliable.
How Our Smart Door Lock Works Without the Internet
The working principle is straightforward.
Once the lock is installed, the smart lock and the mobile app are synchronized. This synchronization concept is widely used in other high-security industries, such as online banking.
For example, when you use internet banking, you may be required to enter a one-time password (OTP) generated by a physical security token. That token is not connected to the internet, yet it generates codes that the bank’s system recognizes and accepts.
Our system works in a very similar way.
A secure formula is programmed into both the Sciener app and the Sciener smart door lock. This allows them to understand each other without being online. The passcode generated by the app contains a message that only the lock can interpret.
For instance, in a rental or Airbnb setting, that message could be:
“Grant access to this guest for three days.”
Step-by-Step: How Access Is Granted
- You open the Sciener app and select “Passcode”.
- You set the access duration, such as the number of days or hours.
- That access period becomes a secure message understood only by the lock.
- The app converts this message into a passcode using its built-in formula.
- You share the passcode with your guest.
- The guest keys in the passcode on the Sciener Smart Digital Lock.
- The lock reverses the passcode back into the original message.
- Access is granted only for the specified duration, and expires automatically.
Why Internet Is Not Required
An internet connection is unnecessary because you are the messenger. The information is securely transferred from the app to the lock via the passcode. No live connection is needed for the lock to understand what to do.
